How to choose a research peptide supplier
Quality varies widely between suppliers, and the label on a vial tells you very little. These are the six criteria that let you judge one objectively.

How to read (and verify) a Certificate of Analysis
A Certificate of Analysis is an independent laboratory report for a specific batch. Once you know what to look for, it takes seconds to read. Here is what each field means, mapped to an example.

Compound identity
Confirms the vial contains the compound stated, usually verified by mass spectrometry.

Purity (%)
The proportion of the sample that is the target compound, measured by HPLC. Higher means fewer impurities; ≥99% is a common benchmark.

How much of the compound the vial actually contains (for example, milligrams), which should match the label.

Batch / task number

Purity and testing explained
Two independent methods do most of the work when characterising a research peptide. HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) separates the sample into its components and reports purity as a percentage, telling you how much of the material is the target compound versus impurities. Mass spectrometry confirms identity by measuring molecular mass, so you know the vial contains what the label says.
A meaningful result is independent (from a third-party lab), batch-specific (tied to the run you receive) and verifiable (checkable with the testing laboratory). BioHack London tests to a minimum 99% purity and issues a Certificate of Analysis per batch.
What are research peptides?
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids joined by peptide bonds, shorter than a full protein. Research peptides are supplied as reference materials for in vitro laboratory research and analytical work, where scientists study their chemistry and behaviour under controlled conditions.
They are usually supplied lyophilised (freeze-dried) in a sealed vial for stability, and reconstituted with a suitable solvent, such as bacteriostatic water, before laboratory use. Because they are research materials rather than consumer products, the two things that matter most when sourcing them are verified identity and purity and transparent, batch-level testing.
Storage, handling and reconstitution
Most research peptides are supplied lyophilised for stability. As general laboratory practice, unopened lyophilised vials are kept cool, dry and out of light. Reconstitution, dissolving the compound in a suitable solvent such as bacteriostatic water, is done immediately before laboratory use, and the reconstituted solution is typically refrigerated and used within a limited period.
